ECE Video Tutorials Program

This project is currently in it's pilot stage. Estimated completion date of the first round of videos is February 2020 with a second round planned.

Overview

This program is meant to address particular pain points in the ECE curriculum that council members have been working to address via appeals for many years. In the meantime students have turned to online resources like Khan Academy and YouTube for academic support. While these resources have huge libraries on theory they often fall short when it comes to niche software (i.e. LTSpice). To this end we have decided to pursue the production of video content to fill these gaps in educational resources.

Operating Plan

The primary operator of this program is myself in the role of producer. We have an initial budget of ~$1000 shared with other VP Academic initiatives. Our goal with this program is efficiently convert that many into useful resources for ECE students at UBC. We also have a direct line of communication to a majority of those students through our Discord server.

Writing, recording, and editing is carried out by individual ECE students through a bounty system which is advertised through our Discord. As producer my role is to filter applications, interview them, and if they are successful communicate production parameters. Students are paid $200 plus production costs per video and applications are accepted in waves (currently we are in our 'pilot wave' of videos which will wrap up in mid-February).

Post-production we will link these videos directly to students taking relevant courses (again via our active Discord). We plan to use view numbers on these videos to demonstrate their utility to students and justify future program expenditures and retro-active reimbursement from the department.
